You can apply the masks through the following steps:
- Prepare your face
Making your face ready for masking is vital to get the best results. You must wash the face using a mild facial cleanser and pat it dry. In case you are not having any makeup and if the face is not dirty, you may wash your face with splashes of normal water. You can also take a hot shower and keep the face covered for a few minutes. This will help the skin to open up and the clay mask will be more effective.
- Mixing the mask
Mix 1 tablespoon of Aztec clay mask with equal parts of organic raw apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Use a spoon or spatula and stir the mixture in a bowl to form a smooth paste. In case you do not like the smell, you may try a 50:50 mixture of vinegar and water. You can also add a drop of tea tree oil for acne-prone skin. If you have more sensitive, dry, or normal skin you can also add a little glycerin and rosewater.
Never use a metal bowl or metal spoon for this. It will react with the clay and reduce its effectiveness. Better use plastic, wood, glass, or ceramic bowls and spoons for making the paste. It should be mixed thoroughly to have a consistent mixture. Also, make sure that there are no flakes inside. If the mixture appears thin, you can add more clay or if it is thick you can thin it down with vinegar.
- Apply the mask
Once the clay paste is ready, apply the same all over the affected areas on your face taking care that it does not get into your eyes. You can use a brush, or a clean cloth, or apply the mask with your finger. Apply the Aztec clay in a layer of 1/8 inches to 1/4 inches thick. Applying thin will not deliver good results. Applying the mask once in a week delivers impressive results.
- Allow it to dry
If you have normal skin you can let the mask dry for 15 to 20 minutes. For delicate skin, let it dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Once you apply the clay mask it will be uncomfortable to move the face. So, do not talk or smile. You will have a pulling and tightening feel. Your face will also start pulsating as the mask gets dried.
- Wash it off
Once the waiting period is over, wash off the mask gently with warm water. Never try to peel it off. Splash your face with little warm water and start rubbing it in a circular motion to make the mask moist. Once done, rinse the clay down with normal water. Avoid scrubbing and Wash it slowly with regular massaging for complete removal of the mask. Do not use a soap or a face cleanser.
- The aftereffect
You may notice slight redness. This will disappear within 30 minutes. You can also apply Vitamin E gel-cream on the face if required. You may also apply the mask in the night just before going to bed. Your face will be fine the next morning.
One may be sensitive to a skincare product be it synthetic or natural. In case you have some adverse effects using Aztec clay, stop using it immediately, and consult your doctor if necessary.
